Ground Anchors

Problem

Last year, we didn’t complete building our shade structure because of how difficult it was to install anchors. We used manually installed anchors which only 1 person in the pre-build crew was strong enough to install. In order to speed up pre-build and better parallelize, we’re investing in better ground anchors.

Solution

GroundGrabba sells a kit specifically designed for strong (300lb per anchor) ground anchors which are driven by impact drivers.

Webbing

Problem

Our aluminet shade cloth stretched to the point of damage last year because our webbing was too long, causing the shade cells to put tension on the cloth. We helped this slightly by using ball-ties to attached the cloth to the webbing instead of zip-ties. This leaves two areas of improvement this year:

  1. Reduce our tolerance so that we can use zip-ties rather than ball-ties which are expensive and have better uses elsewhere in camp.
  2. Create more consistent webbing lengths. Because all of the webbing was hand tied, length varied causing uneven tension.
